Ellen loves these cookies, and since she is having a hard time right now, I made some to cheer her up. They are unusual, and it seems like you love them or hate them. I think they're great.
Anise Cookies - now with actual anise!
1 3/4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. anise seeds
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Combine dry ingredients. In large bowl, cream shortening and add sugar, egg, and vanilla. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Roll by tablespoons into balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.

Ok Cindy dear, I give up!!! Where's the anise come from? I don't see any flavoring but vanilla in the recipe. I have a similar recipe, but you frost the cookies in a glaze made with Anise extract and confectioner's sugar. YUM YUM
Oops! I am apparently more tired than I thought I was. I added the 1 1/2 tsp. anise seeds. That might help!
