Baby, You Can Drive My Car!

Sarah was so excited to turn 15, and not just for the presents! It was the driver's permit she was after!

A couple of days later, I took her down to the DMV to get her permit. It was not as easy as it sounds. Apparently, you need some major proof of identity. So we had to come back and find her birth certificate, her original Social Security card, proof of address, DNA sample, thumbprint, blood sample - OK, I might be exaggerating slightly. Then we got our number and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait some more. We both finished our books. Finally, they called Sarah's number and she went off to take the written test. And she passed! So now she's legal behind the wheel.

Randy is a better teacher than I am, I think. He just lets her go! I'm a little more hesitant, because I can't tell what is too hard and what she can do. She's doing much better already. She's fine staying between the lines, she doesn't jerk the car forward when she stops. She certainly still needs some practice, and we haven't tried State Street or the freeway yet. But she's doing pretty well. I think she may wind up taking after me and being a little heavy on the gas pedal, unlike her dad, who is a little more relaxed. Be sure to tell Sarah congrats next time you see her!
