Birthday and Recipe

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!

We went to see my mom for her birthday yesterday. She just turned 70. We had a great time. She made us dinner - pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and fresh tomatoes. And she ordered Pizza Hut for the vegetarians in the family. Will overdid and wound up with a tummy ache. We gave my mom a glass mushroom. It's made of mercury glass, very heavy, and it looked so cool. It reminded me of my mom, since she always likes mushrooms. She used to draw them all the time.

The kids terrified their cousin. They convinced Xander that Will was a zombie who liked to eat little boys and eat their brains. Oops. So if he had nightmares last night, that was all their fault! Stinkers.

I made the cake, applesauce spice cake with browned butter frosting. I thought I would share the recipe for the frosting.

Browned Butter Frosting:

3 Tb. margarine or butter
2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2-3 Tb. milk

Melt the butter over low heat. Continue to cook butter until it turns a delicate brown. Let butter cool. Then beat in powdered sugar, vanilla, and add milk until of a spreading consistency. Makes enought to frost the top of one 9x13 cake.
