Straight, straight, straight, straight

I have decided to change the way I walk because I walk like a duck.

Sarah says I walk like a dancer, which sounds MUCH more flattering. But it's still the same: I walk with my toes out. See, if I put my feet with my heels together, my toes are opened up to the side. Like this: \/

It all started when I was four. I was in a car accident and broke my leg. When the cast came off, I had to sort of start over with walking. And this time, my muscles were weak from being in the cast so long. Somehow, it was easier for me to walk like this: \/

But now, and really, for the past few years, that's been causing more trouble than it's worth. Walking like that has put strain on my muscles that shouldn't be there, and because my leg boness are squarely supporting my weight, like they would if I stood straight, my back is not happy either.

So I'm trying now to walk nice and straight. It's slowed me down so darn much. It's driving me nuts. You should have seen me at Wal-Mart today, talking in my head with every single step, saying, "Straight, straight, straight, straight."

It doesn't hurt as much now as it did at first. My muscles are loosening up a little. But still, I have to consciously think, "Straight, straight, straight, straight."

Now there is a habit that is going to be hard to break. Whoever thinks about how they walk? We just walk.
I hope it comes quickly and it can help your back.

Good luck! I hope that very soon you will be able to walk without talking yourself through it. That would exhaust me!

I think I walk a little like that too. It's a hard habit to break, I've tried. But you can do it! Now I will know what you're thinking about when you're walking and look deep in thought!
